It all started when...

Classically trained, Michael is a vastly experienced composer, orchestrator and conductor who holds a Doctorate in composition (Leeds) in addition to numerous Fellowship awards. His catalogue of chamber music is published globally and he has been fortunate to receive three Royal Premieres, in addition to several broadcasts on national radio and television.

In 2010, he orchestrated numerous tracks for the Columbia Artists US touring show Celtic Circle before becoming increasingly in demand for production music.  More recently he composed the winning entry to the ThinkSpace Trailer Competition (‘The Edge’); a score which also made the final at the Short Sounds Film Festival in 2017. In 2016 he scored the Nanyang animation ‘Girl Upstairs’, the Kamoon Film short ‘Bragging Rights’ and the drama ‘Red Hoodie’ by Paternoster Productions.

2017 has so far brought opportunities to score the dark drama ‘Hookworm’ (BFI premiere), 'The Wasteland' by Nine Ladies Film and also the forthcoming ‘Night of the Bi-Planes’ e-comic series.  Michael also regularly contributes to a number of production music libraries in the UK and US, composing tracks for genres ranging from ‘Nordic Noir’ to more mainstream trailer cues.  2017 also saw Michael selected for the SMART emerging talent programme at the leading composer agency SMA Talent Ltd.

Influenced by the likes of Olafur Arnalds and Johann Johannsson, Michael’s preferred style is very much about orchestral and synth subtlety; those ethereal ‘edge of audible’ timbres which often add a disproportionate amount of value to the narrative and sub-text in thrillers and dramas.
